British forces were stationed near Chanak

3. The Chanak Crisis -1922
15 of September, Britain sent a telegram asking the Dominions (including Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa) to donate soldiers to the crisis in a demonstration of the Empire’s unity against the Turks.
Canada had no distinct foreign policy, not even a foreign affairs minister
On 18 September, Prime Minister King's Cabinet agreed that only Parliament could decide such matters
By the time Parliament could talk about the matter, the crisis in Turkey had passed
In Canada, King’s separate attitude toward the crisis sent a message that he wanted greater independence for Canada in terms of its foreign policy.
