2 1) Oral Cavity Chewed up by the teeth.
Sublingual, submandibular, and parotid glands produce saliva to begin the breakdown.

3 2) Esophagus The food travels down the esophagus to enter the stomach.

4 3) Stomach The main digestion is done here.
Gastric acid breaks it down. The muscles in the stomach break it down physically by crushing it into smaller pieces.

5 4) Small Intestines Within the small intestine, an enzyme called sucrase is produced. This enzyme breaks down sugar, so a lot of digestion occurs here.

6 5) Large Intestine No digestion is done here.
The large intestine absorbs the water and what little nutrients have not already been absorbed.
