1 Learn. Celebrate. Honor. Round-Up Lesson - 2018
“I have a dream” Learn. Celebrate. Honor. Round-Up Lesson

2 Activity set-Up/Introduction
Teachers: Explain to students that we will be listening to part of the I have a Dream speech given by Martin Luther King Jr. on August 28, 1963. Students are to remain seated and quiet while listening to the beginning of the speech and reflect on the words and lessons of MLK, Jr. Students as you listen and think, look at the poster hanging in your classroom.

3 Connecting to the speech
Students and Teachers…Think: What is your dream? What is your dream today for youth? What is your dream for America? What is a dream that you have that would continue the work of Martin Luther King, Jr.? Teachers: Play this Clip: Students: As you listen to the speech and you come up with your reflection, stand up and finish the sentence, I have a dream… It is located on the poster in your Round-Up class . Be thoughtful with your words. We can’t wait to see your responses. If you don’t have anything to add simply, remain in your seat during the activity.

4 What’s next? At the conclusion of the speech and reflection activity, give all students a chance to review the responses and discuss as a class. Teachers write the name of the Round-Up class on the BACK of the poster. Have a student bring down the poster and give to the main office. Thank you! Enjoy your day off for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday (Monday, January 15th, 2018).
