2 Objectives Identify some of the issues facing the nation at the close of the Civil War Create and defend a specific government plan to deal with these issues. (HW: FILL IN GRAPHIC ORGANIZER USING CHAPTER 12, SECTION 1)

6 For full credit (15 points)
The plan needs to be specific and address most of the questions for your issue The plan/ rationale for your decisions needs to be clearly defended in a sentence or two. When finished with the plan, create a name for it that reflects the goals and ideals of your plan.

7 Reconstruction Plans Please have out your “Creating a plan….” sheet and “Plans for Reconstruction” HW from yesterday. Go over plans- discussion/ debate by the “Senate” Compare actual plans Amend our list of what “success” would look like

8 Reconstruction would be a success if…… (PERIOD 5)
Equality between Whites and Blacks. Less Conflict between the North and South. The Southern Economy gets back on track. New Economy formed. Freedmen educated and brought up to “citizen standards”. The Federal Government steps up to plate to aid the Union.

11 The committees are going to present their proposal to the rest of Congress
Listen carefully to both proposals Write down questions for clarification or more detail (these will be open to all of Congress, not just the committee) Write down specific parts of the program you RESPECTFULLY disagree with (these will likewise be open to RESPECTFUL discussion debate on the “floor”)

12 CREATE YOUR RECONSTRUCTION PLAN
Issue one: re-establishing the Union When can a southern state equally re-enter the Union? Should there be conditions? What? Issue two: Former Confederates? Punish them? Pardon them? Issue three: freedmen? What to do with 4,000,000 former slaves? CREATE YOUR RECONSTRUCTION PLAN On google classroom- 5 pts- specific plan that deals with your issue; a rationale/ defense of your plan ROLES: READER OF ISSUES/ QUESTIONS “SCRIBE” IDEA PERSON/ FACILITATOR- MAKE SURE ALL IN GROUP “HAVE A VOICE” QUESTIONER- IS THE PLAN CLEAR/ SPECIFIC ENOUGH?
