1 13.1 Periodic Data One complete pattern is called a cycle.
A periodic function repeats a pattern of y-values (outputs) at regular intervals. One complete pattern is called a cycle. The period of a function is the horizontal length of one cycle. Amplitude is half the difference between the maximum point & the minimum point. Okay let's look at WS 13.1

4 13.2 Angles and the Unit Circle
An angle in standard position when the vertex is at the origin and one ray is on the positive x-axis. The ray on the x-axis is the initial side of an angle; the other ray is the terminal side of the angle. initial side terminal side

5 so 180o + 20o = 200o, which is the measure of the angle.
Ex1: The angle measure of 20o more than a straight angle of 180o 20o so 180o + 20o = 200o, which is the measure of the angle. quarter rotation 90o three quarter rotation 270o full rotation 360o half rotation 180o

6 EX 2: Find the measure of the angle. 30o 45o

7 EX 3: Sketch the angle. a) 36o b) 315o c) -150o Two angles in standard position are coterminal angles if they have the same terminal side. 135o -225o

8 The unit circle has a radius of 1 unit and its center at the origin.
y 1 -1 1 x -1

9 Def'n: Suppose an angle in standard position has measure θ
Def'n: Suppose an angle in standard position has measure θ. The cosine of θ (cos θ) is the x-coordinate of the point at which the terminal side of the angle intersects the unit circle. The sine of θ (sin θ) is the y-coordinate. 1 (cos θ, sin θ) θ 1 Remember back to your special right triangles. 60o 2x x 30o x√3
