Resources (national supercomputer facilities, International Organisations heavy instruments, clusters of computers, databases, storage, …) are being brought together in Europe by projects such as GEANT, EGEE and DEISA and in USA by initiatives such as the cyberinfrastructure and Teragrid

GEANT as well as Internet2 or SuperSinet operate high performance networks using the most up to date networking technology, promoting their global interconnection (currently IPv6 enabled and operating at multigigabit level)
