2 Legal Delivery Must push off from pitcher’s plate Women’s / JO

3 Women’s / JO fast Pitch Pic 1-7 Shows a legal delivery. Even though this pitcher has a unique style, the non-pivot foot never loses contact with the ground until the stride foot has landed.

4 Women’s / JO Fast Pitch When is the foot above the plane of the ground? Pic 1 Shows leap. Illegal pitch. Pic 2 & 3 Would toe touch the ground and drag if dirt were level with the pitcher’s plate? If so-Legal pitch, if not-Illegal pitch.

5 Pic 1 Toe down drag. Legal pitch
Pic 2 Both feet airborne, leap. Illegal pitch Pic 3 Toe down drag. Legal pitch. Pic 4 & 5 Would toe touch the ground and drag if dirt were level with the pitcher’s plate? If so-Legal pitch, if not-Illegal pitch. Pic 6 Toe down drag. Legal pitch.

Pic 2&3 Airborne leaving the pitcher’s plate, hands are still together. Pic 4 Landing with hands still together, gaining a new starting point in front of the pitcher’s plate. Pic 5 Pushing off from new starting point. Pic 6 Hands separate, starting the pitch 3’ in front of the pitcher’s plate. Pic 7-9 Continuing the delivery.

8 Men’s Fast Pitch Pic 1 Hands come together.
Pic 2&3 Pushing and dragging off the pitching plate hands still together. Pic 4 Hands starting to separate 2’ in front of pitcher’s plate. Pic 5 -7 Continuing the delivery. Note: Pics 2-7 Pitcher’s pivot foot maintained contact with the ground, but the pitch started 2’ in front of the pitcher’s plate when the hands separated.

Pic 2 Hands separate, note pivot foot still on pitcher’s plate. Pic 3 Pitcher has both feet airborne, toe of pivot foot is pointed down. Pic 4-6 Pitcher lands and delivers ball.

12 Legal Delivery May not deliberately drop, roll or bounce the ball
Next pitch must be released within 20 seconds after receiving the ball

13 Intentional Walk All pitches must be legally thrown to the batter

14 Defensive Positioning
Defensive players Must be in fair territory when pitch is released except catcher who must be in catcher’s box Must not take a position blocking the batter’s view of the pitch or distract batter Effect: Offending Player will be ejected

15 Foreign Substances Pitcher who licks fingers must wipe them off before coming in contact with ball No foreign substances are allowed on the ball Acceptable items Resin (must be left on ground) Approved manufactured drying agent (Gorilla Gold, must be in pitcher’s pocket) First offense- Illegal pitch Second offense- Player ejected

16 Foreign Substances Pitcher may not wear any item on pitching: Hand
Wrist Forearm Elbow Thigh Which in the umpire’s judgment may be distracting to batter

17 Catcher Must remain in the lines of the catcher’s box until pitch is released Must return ball directly to pitcher except: Strikeout Putout Attempted putout by catcher Effect: Ball on batter

18 Throwing to a Base Pitcher shall not throw to a base:
While in contact with pitcher’s plate May step backward prior to separating hands to remove from the pitching position

19 Warm-up Pitches Start of game / between innings / new pitcher:
Fast Pitch- Not more than 1 minute to throw not more than 5 pitches Effect: Ball on batter for every extra pitch

20 No Pitch Pitch during suspension of play Quick pitch
Runner leaving early on pitch Before runner has returned to base after legitimately off base If anyone calls time or commits an act while the ball is live to attempt to make the pitcher commit an illegal pitch

21 Violations of Pitching Rule
Unless otherwise noted: All violations of the pitching rule are Illegal Pitches EFFECT: If the batter hits the ball and reaches 1B safely, and if all runners have advanced at least one base on the batted ball, the illegal pitch is nullified. All action as a result of the batted ball stands. NO OPTION IS GIVEN.

Unless otherwise noted: All violations of the pitching rule are Illegal Pitches EFFECT: Otherwise the manager has the option to take the result of the play, or the illegal pitch is enforced by awarding a ball to the batter and advancing all runners one base.

23 Violations of Pitching Rule
Unless otherwise noted: All violations of the pitching rule are Illegal Pitches EFFECT: If an illegal pitch hits the batter out of the strike zone the batter is awarded first base and all other runners are awarded one base.

24 Violations of Pitching Rule
Unless otherwise noted: All violations of the pitching rule are Illegal Pitches EFFECT: If an illegal pitch hits the batter in the strike zone (or the batter prevents the ball from entering the strike zone) The manager has the option to take the result of the play, or the illegal pitch is enforced by awarding a ball to the batter and advancing all runners one base
