A variety of vascular or transthoracic access options are available for performing TAVI as shown. Most of these strategies involve approaching the valve from the aortic side (retrograde), but the trans-apical approach involves delivering the valve from the apex of the heart through the left ventricle (LV). In such cases, the valve must be mounted on the balloon in an inverted orientation prior to advancing to the aortic annulus.
