Mandated Reporting A Quick How To Emily P. Laurey, LMSW January Faculty Meeting

How and Where? Any concerns for suspected child abuse/maltreatment should be reported immediately “Reasonable cause” to suspect while in your “professional capacity” School Officials are Mandated Reporters The report will need to be made with these identified staff members: Building Principal, Superintendent, School Counselor, School Nurse, School Psychologist, and School Social Worker Reasonable cause means credible suspicion , once we suspect or should suspect that a child has been or will be abused or maltreated, we need to call. There needs to be a negative impact on the child, for example a child is struck with an object but no mark is left, could potentially not be accepted. However, always call! Let them decide and just document their decision. You can always speak with a supervisor. Abuse-inflicts or allows to be inflicted , physical injury, disfigurement, death, any sex offense, excessive corporal punishment Neglect-inadequate food, clothing, shelter, medical, supervision, with the means to do so Minimum degree of care-not your parenting standards or expectations
