1 Making a new equivalency for a conversion factor
Two things equivalent to a third are equivalent to each other. If a=b and a=c, then b=c as well. If 1 m = 1000 mm and 1 m = 100 cm then 1000 mm = 100 cm or, simplified 10 mm = 1 cm If 1 atm = 760 mm Hg and 1 atm = 101,325 Pa then 760 mm Hg = 101,325 Pa

2 Another way to look at Dimensional Analysis
Set up the equation with just the units. After solving for the units, put in the numbers and do the math. Convert 35 m/s to Km/hr. Set up just the units - start with the known… = hr Km m s x s min x min hr x Km m Then plug in the numbers… x Km 1000 m 126,000 Km hr 60 s min 35 m s = 126 Km 60 min 1,000 hr

3 Another way to look at Dimensional Analysis
Convert Kg/L to g/mL. Kg L x g Kg x L mL g = mL x L 1,000 mL 1,000 g Kg 13.53 Kg 13.53 g = mL Plug in the numbers…

4 Reminder - How to solve Dimensional Analysis problems:
STEPS: 1) BEGIN WITH KNOWN 2) DECIDE ON AN EQUALITY 3) ARRANGE UNITS TO CANCEL OUT ORIGINAL UNITS 4) DO THE MATH!
