A variable is any letter or symbol that represents a changeable or unknown value. What is the variable?

9. What is a Coefficient?
A coefficient is the number multiplied by the variable. It is located in front of the variable.
What is the coefficient in the expression below?

10. If a variable contains no visible coefficient, the coefficient is 1.
Example 1: x + 4
is the same as
1x + 4
- x + 4
is the same as

11. What is an exponent?
The exponent is the number of times a number is to be multiplied by itself.
For example, 52:
the 2 means that 5 is being multiplied by itself twice
The 2 can be referred to as squared or to the power of two.
The 5 is called the base.

12. Terms
Either a single number or a variable, or numbers and variables multiplied together.
In a term, the coefficient and the variable are being multiplied by each other
For example, 5x = 5 times x
