1 S4 Attainment Challenge
2018

2 There’s always room for improvement…

3 Raising Attainment “Attainment is an individual’s passport to personal, social, cultural and economic opportunities. Raising attainment means improving life chances.” (Scottish Government, 2012)

5 How clearly do you set high aspirations for every learner, every day?
In what ways do you communicate these aspirations with the learner, parents/carers and colleagues? How can you ensure that all learners become self-motivated to achieve the highest level of attainment they can? How effectively do you feedback to learners about their successes and areas for development in a way that allows them to gain confidence in their ability to learn? How do you “take action early” and intervene appropriately when attainment levels should be better ?

6 Case study - ‘Assertive’ Mentoring

7 Rationale for our Attainment Challenge
Build on this established model of a successful ‘Assertive Mentoring Programme’ adopted in a South Lanarkshire. Adapt this as a pilot project a selective group of S4 students within our school’s context / structures / values. For each participant it is integral that the student, family and teachers work together to ensure each participant attains five or more Nat 5 qualifications this year at the best level possible and therefore reach or indeed exceed their academic potential. The basic premise is each participant being individually coached by a member of staff who will be their ‘Challenge Coach’. Participants will meet regularly with their CC and follow an intensive target based programme based on reflection, outcomes and accountable actions
