2. Your Assignment
Pretend you are a Twelve who is in Jonas’s Community. Right now you are anxiously, apprehensively awaiting your Assignment. This Assignment will be your job for life. It will allow you to be a productive member of The Community. You will have this job until it is time for you go to the House of the Old. It will be talked about at your Ceremony of Release. It has been carefully selected for you based on your aptitude, interests, and skills.
After receiving your assignment, write a letter in your writer’s notebooks to the Chief Elder. You can either thank her and the Council of Elders for their wise choice of an assignment for you OR you can tell her how terrible a choice this was. You must explain WHY this job fits or does not fit you. After you explain your feelings, you must EITHER tell her what you are most excited about in receiving this assignment or what job you would like to have instead. If you are choosing a new job, remember it will go to a committee for “study”. Remember- unless you are the Receiver of Memory, you can always apply for Release.
