7 Connotation Example: My sister acted very childish when she didn’t get the puppy she wanted from the pet store. -childish implied that she threw a fit and acted very immaturely definition of childish: of a child or typical of a child.

8 Contrast -An opposite idea used to show what something is NOT.
-The opposite of something to give a greater understanding.

9 Contrast Example: The difference in the sisters was like day and night. The older one was very outgoing and friendly, and the younger one was much more timid and reserved.
