1 FORCED CONVECTION AND EFFECTIVE VELOCITY

2 Objectives To find the surface temperature.
To show how increased air flow improves the effectiveness of heat transfer. To show how the relationship between different temperature and velocity.

3 Equipment's Free and Forced Convection TD1005

4 1- Flat Plate 2-Pinned Surface 3-Finned

5 Procedure 1. Fit the fan to the top of the duct.
2. Fit either the finned or pinned heat transfer surface. 3. Create a blank results table. Air Velocity (m/s) T(surface) T2 T(ambient) T1 Difference (T2-T1) 1 1.5 2 2.5 3

6 4. Set the fan to give an air velocity of 1 m.s-1.
5. Set the heater power to 50 w. 6. Wait for the temperatures to stabilize. 7. Record the surface and inlet temperatures. 8. Repeat for increased air velocities of approximately 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 (m\s). 9. Repeat for the other surface.

7 The relationship between the different temperature and velocity of finned and pinned at forced convections
