2 What does MNT stand for? ELIMINATE Maternal & Neonatal Tetanus

3 A Partnership. A Commitment.
Kiwanis International and UNICEF working together to eliminate MNT and change the world. Kiwanis' commitment to reaching out to communities and leaders and together wipe out this cruel, centuries-old disease and pave the way for a better tomorrow. +

4 What is MNT? MNT is caused when tetanus spores, found in soil, come into contact and infect open cuts during childbirth. It infects newborns who then suffer from excruciating convulsions and have an extreme sensitivity to light and touch.

5 Who suffers from MNT? Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus strikes the poorest of the poor, the geographically hard to reach, and those without health care. In 34 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America, it still strikes babies and mothers who have little or no access to health care — either because they are poor, live in remote areas or are caught in humanitarian emergencies.

7 Of one goal you hope to accomplish in your lifetime.
Close your eyes… Recall your favorite memory of playing with your friends when you were a young child. Envision how you feel participating in your favorite activity. Think of one person that is important to you in your life. Remember all that you pictured….erase those memories. As a child infected with Neonatal Tetanus you would have never grasp even one of those memories…just as life starts it is taken from you in just a matter of days.. As a child infected by MNT you are left in a dark rooms, twitching, screaming, and crying. No one can tend to you. Not a doctor, not a nurse, not even your mother. You lay there pained by each movement you make, the sounds you hear, and hurt of longing for your mother, who could do nothing but watch you cry. By now it is too late, and there is nothing you or anyone else to do to make the pain go away…until it is just a matter of time… Dream Of one goal you hope to accomplish in your lifetime.

8 Statistics 1 baby dies every 9 minutes from tetanus. 160 babies die each day from tetanus. Kills nearly 60,000 newborn children every year.
