Created in 2010 by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT)
The EIT is an EU body whose mission is to create sustainable growth
Climate-KIC supports the EIT bringing innovation to market quickly by working with partners from across Europe – something they couldn’t do on their own

Building a new foundation for industry in Europe
As a global society we can no longer afford to take carbon out of the ground and release it into the atmosphere. (Big statement?)
The transition to economically viable circular models of production is key to delivering the carbon-neutral European economy of tomorrow .
Putting our continent’s industrial activity on a sustainable footing means creating carbon-neutral value chains based on the circular economy and the bio-economy. By focusing efforts away from singular gains towards a cross-industry approach we replace self-interest with a fruitful symbiosis.

City authorities and increasingly corporate actors acknowledge that socio-technical systems and citizen behavior are at the core of fundamental and accepted transitions and thus need to be strongly incorporated in any innovation endeavor
Bridge the lack of actors that can neutrally coordinate change in cities at systemic level
Enable infrastructures and systems like information and communication technologies, data architecture, urban planning and governance to drive and replicate innovation effectively and to render our cities more responsive.

9. Our business model
An end-to-end approach that supports, rather than dictates progress:
Our revised Innovation Framework adopts an integrated end-to-end approach that supports, rather than dictates progress.
We have formalised five specific programmes each having a specific purpose linked to the progress of innovation. They are:
Defining Priorities: Identify the most potential for climate action within our network.
Ideator: Make connections that generate innovation opportunities
Accelerator: Validate business models to accelerate the vision and guide investment
Demonstrator: Implement the innovation and demonstrate its potential to deliver climate action
Scaler: Scale innovation to realise climate action.
Innovation is inherently unpredictable, both in deviating from original expectations and often non-linear manner in the way progress is experienced. However, we believe this pipeline approach, is the best way of leveraging our partner consortia, start-ups and other actors in our geographies, into a unique network that can create scale on a pan-European level.
We will apply this to our thematic priorities – aiming at end-user needs and market development.
