9 Reasons to Get Involved in the PTA
Volunteering makes a big difference. Research consistently shows that kids whose parents are involved in their schools do better. Volunteering offers tangible ways to be part of things. It feels great to participate! Your child spends a lot of time at school, and it’s great to share some of her school-related experiences with him/her. You’ll get to know other parents. It’s powerful to create a circle of adult friends around a school, and having a shared interest is a good place to start. It’s a manageable commitment. Volunteering can seem daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s fun! Even simple events like game night can spice up your week. You can tailor volunteering to play to your strengths. There are many ways to contribute, some of which are sure to complement your strengths, interests, or professional skills. Have a great idea? Volunteering gives you opportunities to get your ideas out there. Volunteering provides another way to get to know school and support staff to better understand their needs and ideas.

10 2016-2017 Open Board Positions We are filling the following positions:
President VP Fundraising VP Curriculum Enhancement VP Community Affairs VP Social Treasurer Assistant Treasurer Secretary Parliamentarian Volunteer Coordinator President-Elect Open Board Positions We are filling the following positions: President-Elect Treasurer VP-Community Affairs* VP-Social* VP-Curriculum Enhancement * This role is conducive to sharing responsibilities with a friend.

11 Executive Board Election Process
Interested candidates submit their name to the Nominating Committee along with the name of the position they wish to fill. A member of the Nominating Committee will meet with each candidate to discuss the expectations of the position. The Nominating Committee announces the nominees at the General PTA Meeting on March 15, 2017 (it needs to be at least 30 days before the April meeting). Officers are elected at the April 21, 2017 General PTA meeting.  If there is only one nominee per position, the vote can be done by voice vote.  If there are more than two candidates for any position, a ballot is required.  The President-Elect automatically proceeds to president, so no vote is required for the President position. Officers, except the Treasurer, assume their duties following the close of the April meeting.  The Treasurer assumes his/her position at the end of the summer, though shadowing the current Treasurer is highly recommended to learn about the process of closing the books and preparing for the audit).

12 Filling Committee Chair Roles
Once a new Board is in place, they will work with the Committee Chairs to identify positions that will be available during the school year. We are currently in the process of contacting this year’s Chairs to inquire about their interest in staying on next year. In addition, NEW committees may be put into place. Some of these include: Open House Teacher Luncheon Hospitality (Staff) Back to School Night Babysitting Portrait Mural
