5 SAKAI: Progress so far Sep 03: University of Michigan, Indiana University, MIT and Stanford University decide to go ahead Dec 03: Mellon grants $2.4M Jan 04: Sakai project kicks off Feb 04: SEPP launched with $300K grant from Hewlett May 04: Foothill-De Anza Community College District awarded $ 600K by Hewlett to adopt and extend Sakai Jun 04: Sakai CLE 1.0 Beta released to SEPP partners during first SEPP conference at Denver Jul 04: SEPP members join Sakai Board Jul 04: Sakai CLE 1.0 RC1 released to public Aug 04: Sakai CLE 1.0 RC2 released Sep 04: SEPP members number 43 Oct 04: Sakai 1.0 released and available at Collab.sakaiproject.org

6 SAKAI 1.0 This is the ‘run it now out of the box’ version
Sakai 1.0 is installable/runable out of the box Adds the following capabilities: Generic Worksite Setup Create Account button Ability to allow users to create an account, rather than having an Admin create all accounts or relying on an external account provider MySql support (in addition to Oracle) Install configuration process Documentation Installation, configuration, admin This is the ‘run it now out of the box’ version

Better organization, searching, sorting of sites by term, site type (course vs project) Public setting on a site – non-authenticated users can browse site public content Improved reporting on users, server/usage/site statistics for admins and support Improved ability to assume role of particular user and/or admin levels for support Hierarchical organization of sites – URL is more friendly, indicates the context of the site (year, term, subject) Groups – ability to specify groups of users in a site Help available on every tool Enforced copyright control when reading/downloading Resources Enhanced My Profile – added information about the user, editable by the user Ability to rename a user account and maintain ownership of content Syllabus construction tool Whisper function in Chat
