Using prepositions with There is and There are
Using There is and There are depends on the subject of the sentence.
There is
Is used for singular subjects.
There are
Is used for plural subjects.
The preposition or location doesn’t matter.
With multiple subjects, we use There is if both subjects are singular.
With multiple subjects and one is plural, then we have some options.
Just remember to use articles.

(plural)
There is a cup to the left of the book.
cup
(singular)

There are flowers to the right of the book.
There is a cup and book on the table.
There is a cup and some flowers on the table.

There are flowers and a cup on the table.
