17. Getting into libraries
National libraries:
Anyone over 18 years old can use. Photo ID is required.
Academic libraries:
Ask your academic adviser and/or librarian in your home institution to help you establish personal contacts in Korea.
Establish personal contact with professors and/or librarians from your host institution.

Get a “letter of introduction” from a professor at the host institution to obtain a library card.
Have a photo ID (passport, driver’s license, student ID, etc.) ready.

Bring extra photos to get a library card for a long term stay in Korea.
To use other university libraries, get a permission letter from your host institution and a written request for the materials you need.

20. In the library…
Ask for help at the Reference desk: “Where can I find this title?” (“I ch’aek ul odiso ch’ajulsu issulkkayo?” 이책을 어디서 찾을 수 있을까요?)
Database use: once in the library, you can use whatever is there freely.
For storage or closed stack materials and microforms: written request in advance is required.

21. In the library…
Photocopies: for open stack materials, copy the materials yourself or take them to the copy center in the library. For special holdings materials, follow library rules.
Inter-library loan and documentary delivery services: available within Korea.

22. In the library…
Copyrights: follow the Copyrights Law of South Korea. None of the students faced a copyright problem when photocopying articles or portions of a book.
Proxy connection to restricted sites for home computer use: available for students who have official ID with a resident registration number.
