28 Practical Information for Parents

29 Getting ready for Year ? Choose the right device for your child. All of the Stott Hoare options are suitable. Some have more memory or different processor capacities. All are endorsed by the school for use with the curriculum. Order the device in time to have a smooth start to the year Think about how your child will protect the device from damage and back up their data. Hard cases must be appropriate for the school environment and we recommend a hard drive for backing up data

30 Insurance Cover Parents are required to insure the device
Options: Contact your current insurer - Seek independent insurance cover Take out the cover that is offered at the point of purchase The Department of Education does not cover personal property at school or in transit between home and school

31 Safe Use – Recommendations for parents to discuss with their child
Always carry your laptop in a hard case and in your school bag when not in use Only use it in a safe place – in the classroom, library or home Don’t use it in public places – shops, parks, on the bus Don’t leave it unattended or loan it to anyone It is a privilege and as the parent, you have the authority to manage appropriate use at home

32 responsibility of the parent.
Internet Use The school monitors all internet use while students are using the Department of Education ICT services. The West Australian curriculum incorporates safe and ethical use of ICT, the internet and social media. Monitoring appropriate use outside Department of Education services at home is the responsibility of the parent. The Australian Government cybersafety websites provide excellent resources for parents.

33 Social Media – parent conversations with teens
Respect yourself Respect the community and the people in your school Be a good friend Treat others as you would like to be treated Keep your personal details private THINK Source:
