1 Chapter 1

2 Zeus My Greek name is Zeus. My Roman name is Jupiter.
I am most well known for being the God of the gods, the God of the Sky, and the God of Lightning I am also the most powerful god of all the other gods! Sources: mythweb.com and theoi.com Picture:

3 Zeus My symbols are: the eagle (the USA copied me); a sceptre (all powerful rulers have sceptres); a thunderbolt; and Aegis (my shield) Sources: Pictures: /Lightning-bolts-Oklahoma-France-deemed-worlds-longest.html;

4 Zeus (Read famous story from notes.)
Source: “The War in Heaven” Pictures: The story I am most famous for being a part of is defeating my father, Cronus (it’s sometimes spelled Kronos). When my older brothers and sisters were born, my dad swallowed them whole so they could not grow up and overthrow him. My mother, Rhea, didn’t want this to happen to me. She wrapped a stone in a blanket and gave it to Dear Old Daddy. He swallowed it without even looking. My mom hid me on an island. I stayed there until I was grown and could avenge my siblings’ unfair treatment. I sneaked poison into his wine and he threw up all my siblings. They were fine. Then I overthrew my dad and ended his reign as king of the gods. Depending on the version you read, I either cut him into a million pieces and threw him in the deepest darkest pit, called Tartarus, or I slashed him and he withdrew into the sky and never returned. You can believe whichever you want. The point is I won!

5 Cronus (Kronos) Known for being the ruling Titan and he is the god of time Viewed as destructive and all-devouring force Married to Rhea known as “Mother of Gods” Had 6 children → Olympian Gods → Hestia, Demeter, Zeus, Hades, Poseidon, and Hera Roman name: Saturn Symbols: Scythe, grain, snake, harp

6 Interesting Facts/Story on Cronus the Titan
Ruled the Golden Age by getting rid of his father, Uranus. Afraid his children would overthrow him so he ate them Rhea was unhappy to lose her children so she gave Cronos a rock instead of her son Zeus Zeus grew up and defeated father (also Cronos spit up children so all the Gods came back) Banished forever to Tartarus in the Underworld Sources: Data image:

7 Chapter 2

8 Chiron (Kheiron) I am the most important centaur of Greek mythology. Why? I was a master teacher. I am famous for my ability to teach, my knowledge of medicine, and my wisdome. My students were famous heroes. Have you ever heard of Perseus? Theseus? Heracles? Achilles? All my students. Most centaurs are violent and crude. I am not though. I am civilized and refined. This is also why I am more famous than my lesser relatives. While I am a centaur, because of my high nobility and civility, in ancient Greek images, I’m often portrayed as having human legs in the front. Sources:

9 Chiron (Kheiron) I am the son of Cronus and a Philyra (a sea nymph). My Roman name, as far as I know, is still Chiron but spelled differently. While Heracles was on one of his many quests, he accidentally shot me with a poisoned arrow. The poison was incurable. I wandered the earth in terrible pain because I was immortal and could not die. I wandered and wandered until I stumbled upon Prometheus, the Titan, who was also in terrible agony. I gave up my immortality so Prometheus could go free. For this, Zeus placed me in the stars as a constellation.

10 Charon (Kharon) My Roman name is Charun. I am the ferryman of the dead. I am a spirit, and I work for Hades. When a soul dies, they are brought to me by Hermes. They pay the fee to ride the ferry across the river styx, and then I ferry them across to the underworld. My fee is a single obolos coin. In ancient Greek times, when a human died, someone put an obolos coin in his/her mouth. Then he/she would have the fee to get to the Underworld. No fee? No ferry ride! The bad part of that is then the spirit is left to wander aimlessly across the earth for eternity. (Tell story of Orpheus) image source:

11 Polydectes I was the king of the island Seriphos.
I was in love with a woman named Danae… but her son Perseus was getting in the way. Thus, I sent Perseus, another Greek hero, on a quest to get Medusa’s head so I could get rid of him and also get close to his mother who I was in love with Unfortunately for me, Perseus came back and used Medusa’s head against me and turned me to stone. He later became the King of Seriphos and replaced me. Sources: Image sources:

12 Polydeuces I am known as patron of bards and sailors.
I am the son of Zeus and have a mortal mother Leda of Sparta (making me a demigod) I have a twin brother, Castor. Luckily for me, I got the immortal side of the genes (I am immortal and Castor got the mortal side from mother) I am known as a boxer and completed a quest in which I had to retrieve golden fleece and later I killed an evil king, proving myself. Returning home from a quest, me and Castor got in a fight with two others-- the result in which Castor was killed. I went to my father and the agreement became that we could spend alternate period in the Underworld and Olympus so we could always be together. Sources: Image sources:
