2. PEGS
For each word your group will discuss it and come up with a definition. The groups with the best definition will get to shoot a basket for bonus points.
For each word we define place it in one of the following categories….
Political (Government, Rights of Citizens)
Economic (Money, Profit)
Geographical (Land)
Social (People, Culture, Education)

3. Isolationism
Policy of pulling away from world affairs, not getting involved.

4. Communism (Hint: Type of government)
Economic and political system based on a single party government ruled by a dictator. No private property, the government owns everything.

5. Red Scare (hint: Communism)
A general fear in America during the early 1900s that Communist spies were influencing the American government and spreading Communism.

6. Radicals
favoring drastic political, economic, or social reforms (changes). Often have extreme ideas.
Anarchists: People who appose any form of government.

7. Nativists
People who disliked foreigners and new immigrants coming to America.

8. Prohibition
Ban on production and sale of alcohol, (18th Amendment). Led to the growth of organized crime in the US.

9. Bootleggers
Criminals who smuggled and sold illegal alcohol. Example: Al Capone

10. Scandal
An offense caused by a fault or misdeed. (Causes disgrace or damage to your reputation)

11. Urban Sprawl
Growth of cities, causing them to spread in every direction.

12. Double Standard
A set of principles granting greater sexual freedom to men than to women.
(Flappers: Young women who embraced new fashions and ideas)

13. Depression (not the sad kind)
A period of drastic decline in the national economy, characterized by decreasing business activity, falling prices, and unemployment.

14. Social Classes
Groups of people defined and categorized by their wealth and social status, they will often argue about political issues
Low, Middle, Upper Class

15. Gold standard
Is the former US monetary system in which the standard currency is based on a fixed quantity of gold.
