5 Mathematics Curriculum
The math curriculum takes on a spiral approach. Some of the concepts taught are built on concepts taught in other years The Mathematics curriculum is structure based on a spiral approach. The key intent is to lay the foundation for fundamental math concepts and reinforce and expand as the students progress in their pruimary school education. Whole No. P1 to P6. The depth is different. The knowledge and skills will be expanded over years as the children progress. For example: P1 will learn whole number 1 to to to 100 (Addition and subtraction.) P2 will learning 1 to 1000 (add subtract divide and multiply.)

Differentiated Math Programmes to Support Learning in West Grove Primary: Learning Support for Mathematics (LSM) Small Group Remediation Students move at the pace that suit them

9 Learning Support for Mathematics (LSM)
Early support and intervention for P1 pupils who are identified to be weak in basic numeracy skills Pupils are identified through a screening test on Week 2 and Week 3 (9 Jan to 20 Jan) All P1 pupils are to sit for the screening test. Better teacher to student ratio to teach these group of pupils. These teachers are trained.

Term 2 to Term 4 – Bite-size Tests and Performance Tasks (Authenticity)

11 Performance Tasks It is an individual activity whereby pupils will perform a task or demonstrate their thought processes using manipulatives correctly and accurately.

How you can help your child? √ Check that your child's work is done. √ Supervise your child's Maths homework. (Read the instructions with your child.) √ Talk to your child about his or her Maths lessons and work. √ Ask your child to teach you what he or she has learnt. Effective communication • Keen observation Do go through the work we have done in class with your child. • Make the learning of mathematics fun by encouraging them to relate their addition and subtraction skills to their daily life experience. • Encourage them to check their work for accuracy. • Ensure that they do their homework. • Encourage them to approach their math teachers if they encounter difficulty in understanding. • Ensure that they have shown you their work and file it properly to facilitate revision.
