2 Hypertonic: high solute-Low water
Hypotonic: low solute-high water Isotonic: balanced solute/water

3 Homeostasis Loop

4 Cell organelles and their Functions
Cell membrane: selective permeable for materials to pass through the cell. Made of phospholipids, proteins, and steroids Mitochondria: double membrane, transfer energy to ATP, have cristae Proteins: multi functions in the cell: repair , maintain shape, control movement Ribosomes: no membrane ,protein synthesis, ribosomes that produce proteins that are used in the cytosol are free within the cytosol. The proteins that are used in organelles or exported to other cells are attached to the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum

5 Endoplasmic Reticulum(ER): intercellular highway for molecules to move from part to another
Rough ER: Houses ribosomes with proteins for organelles or other cells Smooth ER: involved in synthesis of steroids in gland cells, regulation of calcium levels in muscle cells, and the breakdown of toxic substances by liver cells Golgi Apparatus: processing and packaging proteins for export.

6 Lysosomes: Have enzymes that digest proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, DNA, and RNA . Also digest organelles. Cytoskeleton: maintains shape and size of cell using microfilaments(threads) and microtubule. Cilia and Flagella: facilitates movement of the cell Nucleus: stores heredity information-DNA. RNA is copied from DNA. Nucleolus: where ribosomes are synthesized.

7 Plant Cells Cell Wall: outside the cell membrane . Support and protects. Contains cellulose. Vacuoles: stores enzymes and wastes. Not many if it at all in animal cells. Plastids: contain chloroplasts. Chloroplasts: organelles that convert sunlight into chemical energy.
