1 Antigone (Scene ii) Exit Activity

2 Step 1: Get in a Group of 4 or 5. (1 minute)
Choose group members who you trust. All group members will receive the same grade. Move your desks, so that you are facing each other. Your group will work together in order to create a short scene on an Ancient Grecian Talk Show based on what you know so far about Sophocles’ play, Antigone. Each one of you will participate in this brief skit.

3 Step 2: Prepare. (5 minutes)
On a blank sheet of paper, write out each group member’s name, including their character in your talk show skit. One of you will need to be the host. Get creative! (Zombie characters back from the dead? Inquisitive audience members? Sure!) At the top of your page, write the name of your show. This should be mentioned in the skit – introduction, probably.

4 Step 3: Write. (5 minutes) As a group, write out four questions for your talk show host to ask. These questions can each be directed to a single character, or they can be questions directed at multiple characters. Plan out creative responses (based on what you know about the play) from specific characters for each question. These should be written down – not necessarily word-for-word. These responses are where you and your group members demonstrate that you understand the play. Be sure to plan for the host to introduce each character from the play (as if the show were just beginning).

5 Step 4: Practice. (5 minutes)
This will be a presentation for the class, so run through it as a group, making sure that each student knows his/her role. Everyone must have a speaking part. Each group will receive a 10 point grade. five points for creativity five points for demonstrating an understanding of the play Presentations should not be shorter than two minutes, but should not exceed five minutes. Be creative, and have fun! Consider incorporating physical elements, and be sure to have your characters express their emotions in more than just their words.

6 Step 5: Perform. When your group presents, please give me your paper with your names/parts before or after your performance. Show manners and respect when other groups are performing.
