1 Chapter 15: Chromosome 15 A Cell Nucleus 71,913 bp 2473 aa 15 aggrecan
DNA Sequence Chromosome 15 71,913 bp Name of Protein aggrecan Name of Gene ACAN transcription Amino acid sequence mRNA 2473 aa translation Cytoplasm A Cell Nucleus What does this protein make up or do? gives cartilage its gel-like structure Condition/Disease familial osteochondritis dissecans

2 Description of Glaucoma
Symptoms and characteristics Familial osteochondritis dissecans is a condition that affects the joints and is associated with abnormal cartilage. Cartilage is a tough but flexible tissue that covers the ends of the bones at joints and is also part of the developing skeleton

3 Description of Glaucoma (cont.)
Who is affected? Familial osteochondritis dissecans is a rare condition, although the prevalence is unknown. Sporadic osteochondritis dissecans is more common; it is estimated to occur in the knee in 15 to 29 per 100,000 individuals. Outlook or quality of life The lesions cause stiffness, pain, and swelling in the joint. Often, the affected joint feels like it catches or locks during movement. Treatment usually starts with the least invasive measures first. If these fail, then surgery may be necessary. Researcher JA
