7 Why does this answer get 5 out of 5?
GCSE Revision Tests How did the terms of the Treaty of Versailles restrict German military power? The Treaty of Versailles restricted German military power in many ways. Firstly, and most obviously the Treaty of Versailles stated that the German army was only allowed 100,000 men and 6 battleships- all tanks, airplanes and submarines were removed. This would mean that in the event of conflict, Germany’s army would be much smaller and weaker than their enemies. Other countries may also be tempted to take advantage of Germany’s weak situation. They would also have very little influence on events at sea, where their rivals could again take advantage of dominate coastal areas. Even within these limits, it would be hard to make the army as strong as it could be, as the Treaty also demanded that Germany pay reparation payments to the Allies totalling £6,600 million. This would be such a massive financial strain on the country, that spending money on the army may not be a top priority for the Weimar Republic. The loss of land that may have included valuable raw materials and fighting men, would also restrict German military power. Why does this answer get 5 out of 5?
