1 Comparison with Commercial Supermarkets
Measure DeCA Actual* DeCA** Adjusted for DeCA Savings Supermarket*** Weekly Sales/Square Foot $16.96 $24.18 $11.78 Weekly Sales $542,576 $773,620 $466,011 Customer Purchase $64.87 $92.49 $26.78 Square Feet/Store 31,996 46,000 Sales $4.966B $7.081B $ B When compared with other supermarkets, commissaries do a tremendous volume of sales with smaller stores and fewer people. A commercial supermarket in the U.S. (including Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico) is defined as a grocery store with over $2 million in annual sales. To compare DeCA with the commercial supermarket statistics (available from the Food Marketing Institute), we selected 176 U.S. commissaries that had over $2 million in annual sales for the same period of time (CY 2010). The comparisons are astounding! We have stores that average just a little over 69% the square footage of our commercial counterparts, yet we generate 1.44 times the sales per square foot and over double the sales per customer. And that is at cost!! When adjusted for savings, the results are even more incredible. These 176 commissaries account for 84.94% of our total annual sales volume. Commissary customers benefit in other ways also in that various fees such as advertising fees, slotting fees, and new item fees that in commercial retail contribute directly to the commercial retailer profit are passed on to the customer in the form of savings. * DeCA sales data based on CY 2010 data for U.S. stores (including Puerto Rico) over $2 million in CY 2010 (176 Commissaries) to compare with industry ** Savings % used was the 2010 DeCA U.S. (50 State) savings of 29.9% after tax and surcharge. This % is applicable to U.S. data as used in these computations. Overall 2010 DeCA Worldwide savings after tax and surcharge was 31.5% ***Supermarket data from Food Marketing Institute (FMI) Web site (Supermarket Facts - Figures - Industry Overview) DeCA Compares Well with Leading Supermarket Chains! 1 1 1
