We have NO real sculptures from the Greek period as they were destroyed by the Romans but what we have is Roman because they copied the Greeks. Hellenistic period is the last phase of Greek art after Alexander the Great—expanding the influence of Greek Art Nike of Samothrace (Victory of Samothrace

6 Roman Art Before the Roman conquest, Italy was home of an ancient people called the Etruscans. Most civilized Romans conquered the hill town of Rome Romans copied Greek art because of their love for it. Differences between Greek and Roman Sculpture Artists came from Greece Greek tradition Greeks wanted idealistic portraits whereas Romans wanted more realism Romans wanted the statues to remind people of character; therefore they commissioned portrait heads rather than the whole body Greeks would have considered this incomplete.
