Beyond Syllabus Scholarly Activities
One of our senior faculties has been guiding the students of the department of Biotechnology in particular, in statistical evaluation and interpretation of data of Ph. D. work/U.G. project for the last 4 to 5 years . Our faculty have given training in Mathematical problem solving for GATE-2017 aspirants of CS&E students during November 2015. One of our faculty has guided a student under Summer Research Internship Programme on the topic-Statistical Analysis of Rainfall Dataset during May-June 2017. 9 9

Student Activity We, the departments of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Mathematics jointly have been conducting an event called GEOMITRA for our students. In this event, we provide an exposure to students to construct/complete complicated geometrical figures based on certain given clues. 10 10

Strength Dedicated faculty with high sense of responsibility and quality teaching. Good rapport between staff & students. Effective remedial classes for slow learners. Audit courses for Fast learners: 1. Graphs, Trees and Counting 2. Mathematical Modelling Extra inputs from reference materials/internet and application into engineering field are also being given to fast learners. Results Result is consistently good over the years. 11 11

HoD's Message The department of Mathematics was established in the very beginning of the institute, ie Mathematics play a vital role in all main stream branches of engineering courses. The concepts and ideas of Mathematics are very much important and students need to apply it in their technical subjects also in higher semesters. Students of Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Electronics Engineering should know the basics of topics like vector calculus, vector integration, Fourier analysis. Statistical topics like normal, exponential and Chi-squre distributions, sampling, tests of hypothesis, analysis of variance etc. find wide applications in pre-final year of B.E. for many of the branches. Our main aim is to provide strong foundation of Mathematics to students so that they can understand and apply the subject in higher semesters. Apart from these, we also teach applied Mathematics for the students of M. Tech. Programs, viz. Mechanical, Civil and Electrical Engineering.

We have dedicated, experienced and energetic faculty to impart invaluable information that may be used in both academic as well as professional life. Visvesvaraya Technological University recognized our department as a Research centre. Our faculties are leaders in the fields of teaching and research activities. The department has more than 25 research publications in reputed national/international journals. Graph theory, Lattice theory and Ring theory are the thrust areas of research and our faculty are actively involved in these areas. Presently four faculty are pursuing their Ph. D. and three more are in the process. To conclude, I wish both faculty as well as students Great Success in all their future endeavours ! Thank You
