1 Expressing our Worldview
Oct. 14th, 2016

2 Blind Men and the Elephant
There are six men who, though very knowledgeable, are blind. Together they encounter an elephant and each gives his analysis of the creature. Their interpretations are based on the particular part of the elephant they happen to touch.

3 Write down in your note book how the story of the blind men and the elephant relates to worldview?
Let’s Discuss...

4 Some definitions to know:
Paradigm: A set of patterns or ideas, beliefs and values that guide you along to help you make decisions. Paradigm Shift: A change, usually gradual, from one paradigm to another.

5 We all Convey a Unique Worldview
Our worldview is influenced by our life experiences, culture, religion, socio-economic status, gender, biology, environment, family, and friends among other things making us unique. We each see and sense the world differently based upon our personal beliefs, perspectives and worldview. Again, think of that idea of the eye glasses/lenses. Most of the time, these worldviews function outside of our conscious awareness.

6 Expressing Worldviews
Worldviews not only impacts how we understand and make sense of the world around us but also influences how we express ourselves in the world. The collections of personal values, beliefs, and ideas that make up our worldview have an effect on our goals and desires, relationships and behaviors. From this, we express our worldview in daily life. The more aware we become of our worldview and the worldviews of others, the more effectively we can navigate through life.

7 How do we express worldview in society?

8 There are three primary ways in which we tend to express our worldview in society.
Political perspective (power, dominance & wealth of a nation) Religious perspective (worship of gods/goddess & the afterlife) Social perspective (gathering of people & social status)

9 Gateway #2 Each of the civilizations within the article “Worldview Expressed Through Architecture,” have mentioned key architectural features, name 1 feature for each civilization. Next, explain how these architectural features communicate the worldview of those civilizations. Social, political or religious ways.
