6 Legacy/Eurocentrism / Ethnocentrism
Legacy: Something that has been passed on by those who lived before us. Has lasting impacts (positive or negative according to our worldview) Ex: buildings and monuments, political structure, cultural traditions and celebrations, oral histories, tangible artifacts Ethnocentrism: A way of thinking that centers on your own race and culture. Ethnocentric people believe their worldview is the only valid one and judge people according to their traditions, cultures and beliefs Eurocentrism: A form of ethnocentrism that uses European ethnic, nationals, religious and religious criteria to judge other people and their cultures. Typically what we have seen and see in North American society

9 Scramble for Africa Each group will represent a European nation seeking territory in Africa Great Britain France Spain Germany Italy Portugal According to the nation’s goal, each country will claim territory

10 War There is no peaceful solution to these territorial conflicts. Like nations throughout all of history, we solve our disputes by strength of arms in the ancient game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Wars must be monitored by the teacher (Best 2 out of 3) Loser must erase your territory and cannot replace it

11 Winner Each nation must reveal their goal
The winner is determined by who met their goal Now compare your map of Africa to the map of Africa in territorial divisions
