March Meeting National Honor Society Chapter

2 Four Pillars of NHS SCHOLARSHIP- A commitment to learning. As NHS scholar you are committed to putting in your best work regardless of the reward. SERVICE- As an NHS member, your focus should be in working to make your school and community a better place. The willingness to work for the benefit of those in need without compensation or recognition is an essential factor in service. LEADERSHIP- Leadership is taking the initiative to aid others in a wholesome manner throughout your daily activities. Leaders sacrifice their personal interests in order to yield to the needs of other. CHARACTER- Character is who we are even when no one is watching. A Good Character means doing the right thing just because it is right to do what is right.

3 NHS DUES NHS dues are $25.00 for ALL members
(for members inducted in 2017, this will include the NHS shirt) Deadline: OCTOBER 31st, 2017 (PAST DUE) Payment can be online at (if paying online is not possible, please speak to an officer or Mr. Haire)

4 NHS MEETINGS Meetings will be held once a month, typically on the 2nd Monday of each month. The following are projecting meeting dates for the 2017/2018 school year: October 9th November 13th December 11th January 22nd February 12th March 12th April 9th May 14th

5 NHS MEETINGS Attendance is required!
Meetings start at 3:00 pm SHARP, if you come late to more than 3 meetings. That will count as an absence. ONLY 2 meetings may be missed in total

6 NHS HOURS + COMMUNITY SERVICE
By April 2018, each member must have the following: 20 NHS hours- These hours are to be documented on the NHS form given and can only be given by doing NHS related activities. This form will be handed in by April to the officers or Mr. Haire 40 community service hours- Can be given by doing regular community service or NHS activities after you have achieved the 20 NHS. Documented on the regular service hour sheets given in the front office. By the end of the year you must have a total of 60 hours recorded.

7 NHS HOURS/COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
Stranahan Community Garden- Every Monday and Wednesday, 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM Ms. Ferguson can sign off on hours *PB&J-Yearly- (February 26th) 1 jar of peanut butter or jelly = 0.5 hour MAXIMUM: 6 jars = 3 hours Kids in Distress: Toy Drive (Yearly) Depending on size of toy hour varies Kids in Distress Duck Fest Derby Saturday, March 17th at the Esplanade Park in Fort Lauderdale Pennies for Patients- (February 20th- March 21st) Every $7 raised is 1 hour Piper High School- Jan. 24th, Feb. 21st, Mar. 14th – 2 hours each meeting
