2 CONNECTED CHURCH Kubatsirana

3 Working together September 2016

4 What is or was your best subject at school?
Notes to leader: this is a way to get people engaged with the story. You could ask them to speak to the person next to them and then feedback to you.

5 Pastor Gale was disappointed with his church members
Pastor Gale was disappointed with his church members. He was trying to give local children a good education by running a pre-school from the church, but none of them wanted to help!

6 ‘He didn’t know how to tell them how important it was
‘He didn’t know how to tell them how important it was. And then he did a special training called Umoja, or ‘togetherness’ in Swahili with Tearfund partner Kubatsirana.’ Umoja is sometimes called Church and Community Mobilisation.

7 The Bible studies they did showed him how much Jesus had reached out to the people around him. He told his church family and they saw he was right. They should do more to help others. They were particularly inspired by Matthew 9:35-38 ‘Then Jesus made a circuit of all the towns and villages. He taught in their meeting places, reported kingdom news, and healed their diseased bodies, healed their bruised and hurt lives. When he looked out over the crowds, his heart broke. So confused and aimless they were, like sheep with no shepherd. “What a huge harvest!” he said to his disciples. “How few workers! On your knees and pray for harvest hands!”’ Matthew 9:35-38 (MSG)

8 They decided to build a small schoolhouse near their church using local materials. Everyone helped out, and now they are almost finished! When they are finished the schoolhouse will have two classrooms, an office and a meeting room.

9 PRAYER Thank God for the transformation Umoja has brought to the church Pray for the successful completion of the school, so the children can get a good education
