Presentation on theme: "YES NO Jesus invites us to celebrate God’s forgiveness."— Presentation transcript:

1 YES NO Jesus invites us to celebrate God’s forgiveness. Jesus wanted people to know that God would always love and forgive them. Jesus told the story of the lost sheep to help us understand God’s forgiveness. Conscience Reconciliation means coming back together again. The Church celebrates receiving God’s forgiveness in the sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation Eucharist. When we sin we are at peace with God. In the sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation we receive and celebrate God’s forgiveness of our sins. The sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation is also called the Sacrament of Penance. Jesus did not give anyone the power to forgive sin in his name. YES NO YES NO YES NO YES NO YES NO YES NO

2 Today bishops and priests forgive sins in Jesus’ name
Today bishops and priests forgive sins in Jesus’ name. They received this power to forgive sins in the Sacrament of Holy Orders. Penance Conscience is God’s gift that helps us to know right from wrong. Draw a line to the questions you would ask yourself when talking to God to examine your conscience. Respect for God Respect for Myself Respect for Family and Others YES NO Did I hurt someone by what I said or did? Did I pray to God? Did I take care of my body? Did I obey my parents and all those who care for me? Did I always speak God’s name in the right way? Was I grateful for all the gifts God has given to me?

3 Many Catholics make an examination of conscience during their
nighttime prayer. We can ask the Holy Spirit to help us make good choices. Another word for sorrow is conscience contrition. When we pray the Act of Contrition we tell God we are sorry for our sins and we tell God we will try not to sin again. The Church encourages us to celebrate God’s forgiveness in the Sacrament of Penance. We should tell a priest only our venial sins, not our mortal sins. Penance and Reconciliation is a sacrament of forgiveness forgetting. We are not at peace with God, ourselves, and others when we love sin. A word that means “coming back together again” is reconciliation conscience. When we think about our thoughts, words, and actions, we examine our contrition conscience.
