1 A New Approach to Technology Professional Development
Mimio in the Classroom A New Approach to Technology Professional Development E.G.King MEDT

2 Project Overview Background Information Instructional Problem
Increasing amount of technology in the school, but technology professional development model is antiquated and inefficient Instructional Problem Train teachers how to use and incorporate the MimioTeach into regular lessons Proposed Solution A more efficient PD model based on current research E.G.King MEDT

3 Project Analysis Statement of Need: Standard:
Teachers need more robust, individualized professional development to keep pace with increasing amount of technology Standard: NETS-T 5a,d Analysis of Data (Technology survey for teachers) 88% agreed with the statement “I need more training with technology” 71% indicated a desire for a PD delivery model different from current model (Face to Face, formal) Contextual Factors Contributing to Need Developing new technology integration specialist position Development increasingly finding grant money for new technology E.G.King MEDT

4 Instructional Analysis
Audience Overview Teachers of oral D/HH students, 100% have masters degrees or above, varying length of teaching career, varying technological skills Target Cognitive, Affective, and Motor Skills KSA for the MimioTeach KSA for general technology KSA for integrating technology as it pertains to D/HH students Perquisite Skills Basic computer skills Instructional Time Requirements Approx. 3-5 hours, not including initial trial and error or individual assistance/curriculum integration, spread over several weeks E.G.King MEDT

5 Diversity Analysis Potential Accessibility, Cultural, Language Issues
Group is fairly homogeneous, although motivational factors may vary, and attitudes towards technology do vary Appropriate Instructional Resources Variety of incentives to match different motivations Different delivery models depending on technology attitudes Appropriate Instructional Strategies Use different instructional techniques based on learning style/technology attitude E.G.King MEDT

6 Design of Instructional Materials
Instructional Goals/Major Course Objectives Equipment, Software, Lesson Design Behavioral Objectives Instructional Units, Lessons, and Learning Activities Assessment Specifications Self Assessment via online survey Instructor observation during learning activities E.G.King MEDT

7 Behavioral Objectives
When given the MimioTeach, the teacher will be able to connect, start, and calibrate the equipment 90% of the time. Using the Mimio software, the teacher will locate and demonstrate the different functions in the menu, toolbar, and gallery 90% of the time. Using the Mimio software and given a list of required items, the teacher will create a simple Mimio Notebook file with all the required items 90% of the time. When the equipment is available, the teacher will use the Mimio for student instruction for (pick amount of times/observe) Something they can do that will demonstrate (objective 2), objective 3 is stronger in terms of creating a product. Specify the functions? E.G.King MEDT

8 Units/Lessons Lesson 1 – The Basics Lesson 2 – The Software
Setting up and Calibrating the equipment Simple Troubleshooting Lesson 2 – The Software MimioStudio Notebook Lesson 3 – Creating Lessons Integrating the Mimio into current lessons Creating Mimio lessons from scratch Resources Lesson 4 – Tips, Tricks, and Ideas (optional) Follow-up session for teachers to collaborate and discuss E.G.King MEDT

9 Instructional Materials
Quick Start Guides Example Online videos for access at work or at home: Mimio’s Self-Guided-Video-Tutorials Example Resource Lists Examples of Mimio Lessons Example of current lesson adapted for Mimio Example of new lesson Misc. Material (written troubleshooting guides, step-by- step instructions) as needed if requested by teachers E.G.King MEDT

10 Implementation Overview
