4. BUT….. After all piles installed, excavation revealed different conditions than anticipated!
Columns eccentric to drilled shafts
Some square piers between column and shaft, some with no piers
Most shaft tops just below grade

5. This was a problem because…..
No new cap allowed above grade
All new micropiles were already drilled concentric to column
Pre-loading still required

6. The answer….. A working design applicable to every one of 13 shafts
A completely new mode of pre-loading
Saw cutting of piers to allow placement of column reinforcement
Saw cutting of shafts to allow placement of beam reinforcement
