1 Lesson 8.3.3 – Teacher Notes Standard:
6.RP.A.3b, d Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems, e.g., by reasoning about tables of equivalent ratios, tape diagrams, double number line diagrams, or equations. Solve unit rate problems including those involving unit pricing and constant speed. For example, if it took 7 hours to mow 4 lawns, then at that rate, how many lawns could be mowed in 35 hours? At what rate were lawns being mowed? Use ratio reasoning to convert measurement units; manipulate and transform units appropriately when multiplying or dividing quantities. Full mastery can be expected by the end of the chapter. Lesson Focus: The focus of the lesson is to further practice with unit rate and also to have students work problems that encompass unit conversions. (8-107 and 8-113) I can perform solve problem involving unit rate. I can convert measurement units using ratios. Calculator: Yes Literacy/Teaching Strategy: Huddle or I Spy (Struggling students); Walk and Talk (Closure)

14 PRACTICE Solve the following unit rates, pay attention to the units of measure. Robert Wadlow currently holds the record as the world’s tallest man. He was 107 inches tall. Calculate Robert’s height in feet and inches. Madison bought 2lbs of sugar for $3.20. What is the price of sugar per ounce? Joey bought 2 quarts of tea for $12. What is the price of tea per cup? Elizabeth studied a history lesson for 2 hours. She finished each section in half an hour. How many sections did she complete? For Halloween, David packed 6 lb. of candy into bags of lb. each. How many bags of candy did David pack?
