3. Basic Summary
Cathy Kuhlmeier and two other former students of Hazelwood East High argued the fact that the Principal, Robert E. Reynolds deleted two articles, written and edited by students, out of the school newspaper. These two articles were talking about divorce and teen pregnancy. The principal found these to be innapropriate.

4. Essential question of the case
The essential Question was Did the principals deletion of the articles violate the students rights under the first amendment.

5. Constitutional Principals Related to the Case
The only constitutional principal related to the case is the first amendment: Protection of freedom of religion, assembly, petition, press, and speech. Mainly the protection of press and speech were being violated.

6. Outcome of the case
The court finished the case with a 5-3 vote in the principal's favor. Justices Rehnquist (Chief Justice), White, Stevens, O’Connor, and Scalia voted for the principal while justices Brennan, Marshall, and Blackmun voted in the students favor.
They said that students rights were different from adults.

7. Impact on society
This Cases impacted society by making a set back on the protecting of press and speech. This made a lot of schools in the U.S. have more guide lines and restrictions on what students can write in school newspapers.
