Romeo and Juliet reading 5 Date:
Objectives Finish scene one and two of Act Two. Answer questions for the purpose of a closer reading for the Junior Cert. Warm –up – A4 pad – write the quote, answer the question “O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny they father and refuse thy name.” (C50) Juliet argues in this scene that we should not judge a person based on their name. Why might people do this and why is it wrong?

Notes – write this down Soliloquy: a speech made by a character when they are alone. Always truthful. (like an aside). Romeo calls Juliet the center of his world. The Plot or story move forward here a lot. Romeo and Juliet barely know each other and then they plan to marry. Take this note time to get volunteers for readings.

Questions – Point, “reference”, explain.
Look at the prologue again. What does the Chorus tell us about the situation Romeo and Juliet are in now? (C.5, 9-11) Choose two words from the following list to describe Mercutio and say why, with reference to the text: witty, clever, fun-loving, smart, imaginative, suspicious. How does Romeo describe Juliet. (Scene 2, c.26) Juliet is more sensible and practical than Romeo. Find evidence of this and discuss. (Shock of proposal c118, concern for his safety c72)

Cooldown Question You could be asked about ‘how you would stage this scene’. Write down how it looks in your head. Who is where and in what position? Costumes, Lighting, props too.
