The way he moves his hand on the train window surface will influence how the landscapes behind become composed: non-deterministic evolutionary image composition linked to interaction will always provide new and unique image elements that become part of the semi-realistic and semi-virtual trip through data landscapes.

Honkela et al "Pockets full of Memories" is an online and museum installation in which the audience creates an archive by scanning an object in their possession at the time of the exhibition visit. These items and their descriptions are entered into a continuously growing database. The sum of the archive of objects, organized through a neural-net based self-organizing map algorithm, is to be projected on a large gallery wall and the audience will be able to interact, regroup, and reformulate relationships through terminals in the exhbition space. If/Then Two identical heads, sculpted in the likeness of an imaginary androgynous figure, speak to each other, doubting the reality of their own existence. These two, in ever-changing and outrageous conversations with each other struggle to determine if they really exist or not, if they are the same person or not, and if they will ever know. I wanted them to look like replacement parts being shipped from the factory that had suddenly gotten up and begun a kind of existential dialogue right there on the assembly line. Their conversations are generated in real time, utilizing speech recognition, natural language processing, conversation/personality algorithms, and text-to-speech software. They draw visitors into their endless, twisting debate over whether this self-awareness and the seemingly illusory nature of their own existence can ever be really understood.
