Overview

2 Introduction Formed by the Government of Fiji under Decree 39 of 2009 (now FNU Decree 2010) via the merger of 7 institutes: Fiji School of Medicine, Fiji College of Agriculture, Fiji Institute of Technology, School of Nursing, Fiji College of Advanced Education, Lautoka Teachers College and Training & Productivity Authority of Fiji Vision : The University shall contribute towards achieving sustainable livelihoods, open and democratic societies and maximise the standard of living of the communities in Fiji and the Pacific through quality education and training. Mission: To be Fiji’s premier dual-sector university and a regional hub for higher education, TVET, research, innovation and societal development in Fiji and the Pacific. FNU currently has 44 locations in Fiji with 2,289 staff and 25,958 students as of 2016 FNU received the Recognition Certificate in 2010 FNU has received the Certificate of Full Registration in December

4 Major Achievement and Highlight – 2010 Cont.
The Council adopted a set of 50 policies that comprise the University’s Human Resources Policies. Official Color of the College :CAFF– Green; CBHTS (Grey);CEST – Blue; CHE – Gold; and CMNHS – Red 2.Learning Teaching Programmes, Research and Publications. FNU was the first University in Fiji to introduce an Institution wide programme in Ethics, Values and Governance

Leadership and Management Staff: Total : 2,624 Academic: 1,029 Support : 1,595 Student Head Count: 26,635 EFTS: 8,207 New Appointments Deans Professor Paras Nath - Dean CAFF Dr. Eci Nabalarua - Dean CHE Mr. Kamlesh Prakash – Executive Secretary - NTPC Learning Teaching Programmes, Research and Publications CAFF introduced 5 new Programmes CHE started offering B.Ed. Programmes TPAF became part of FNU in 2011 as the National Training and Productivity Centre NTPC offered over 2,143 courses for approximately 24,000 participants. Research and Publications: In total 196 Seminars, Research papers, International Conferences and publications kept the colleges paced. The Fiji Business Excellence Award adopted the Malcolm Baldridge Framework Library Services continued to develop and by 2011 a total 109,187 books and Audio Visuals were available in 15 centers.

7 2011 Highlight Cont. Infrastructure and Communication
Construction work started at CAFF - Lecture Theater and Science Labs. Ground works continued on the Horticulture sight at Legalega in Nadi. New centers for NTPC commenced at Rakiraki and Sigatoka Restructure of Libraries to increase seating Capacity and installment of electronic systems for preventing of book theft.

1. Leadership and Management  College Headcount: 32,496 Colleges EFTS: 9,225 Staff: Total: 2,655 Academic: 1,079 Support: 1,576 New Appointment: Prof .Kandaswamy Angamuthu – Dean CEST Dr. Michael Gregory – Director Planning & Development Dr. Chaminda Jayasundara – University Librarian Policies :Human Resource Policy, Finance Policy and UASR adopted. FNU Samabula Campus renamed Derrick Campus 2. Learning Teaching Programs, Research and Publications Programme Reviews conducted .by CBHTS,CHE and CMNHS Council endorsed new definition of credit points which equal 1 credit point to 15 hours. Research and Publications :A total of 168 Publications, FNU received research grant $235,000 from Government of India to explore Jaggery an alternative to sugar. Fiji Business Excellence Award held in Sheraton organised by NTPC

Some major collaboration was formed in 2012 to further strengthen the partnership network. 4. Student Affairs FNU established Financial Aid Scheme for students.

Corporate Governance, Finance Policy, HR, UASR, Seals Policy, ICT, Energy Management, Mobile phone, Gifts and Donation, OHS 2. Learning Teaching Programs, Research and Publications Total of 268 programmes was offered by FNU as of 2013 Introduction of teaching of Chinese & Japanese (NTPC) The Commercial Agriculture program was launched in Navosa (NTPC) CBHTS received accreditation for its Accounting programmes from FIA FNU became member of Committee on Accreditation of University Qualifications Post Graduate Policy and Procedure was adopted by Senate

11 2013 Highlights Cont. 2.6. Programmes approved by Senate
CBHTS Programmes; Executive MBA, Bachelor of Law, Graduate Certificate in Legal Practice, Certificate IV & Trade Diploma in Banking, Customs and Accounting. CAFF Programs: Higher Education Diploma in Forestry, Certificate III in Commercial Agriculture CEST: Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication, Computer control and Civil Engineering. CHE: Certificate IV & Trade Diploma in Sports Science CMNHS Bachelor of Nursing and Masters of Medicine Senate approved the duration of the programme be reduced ;Trade Level Programmes from 4 years to 3 years and Technician Level from 5 years to 4years Research and Publications: Total of 286 Publications were made in 2013

New $2M Simulator for Maritime Studies New Medical Campus in Honiara, Solomon Islands Acquisition of UniFarm in Navua (2,850 acres) Labasa Campus Ground breaking ceremony FNU Aqua–phonic farm was opened in December 2013 at Legalega , Nadi FNU acquired the property in Waimanu Road and relocated Uni Clinic from Derrick Campus (renamed as Bayview Uni Clinic) 4. Partnership and Collaboration In 2013 FNU continued to strengthen its partnership and collaboration and a total 24 MoUs and MoA s were signed. Grant Agreement with European Union – ECCAM Project and KITE

1.Leadeship and Management College Headcount : 34,524 College EFTS: 10, Staff : Total: 3,479 Academic: 1,040 Support : 2, Salary increase by 10% for staff backdated to 01/01/14. Appointments Ms. Sarita Harish was appointed as Acting Registrar Dean CBHTS Dr. Mahendra Reddy was elected as Hon. Minister for Education Prof. Ram Karan appointed as Acting Dean CBHTS Prof. Nii-K Plange appointed as Acting Dean CHE Mr. Neil V Singh as Act. Director Planning & Development Mr. Krishna Swamy as Director Properties & Facilities Ambassador. Filipe Bole also completed his term as Chancellor and was replaced by Dr. Mahendra Reddy. He assumed this role by virtue of his position as the Minister for Education CINEC signed an agreement with Fijian Government to manage the Maritime School. Maritime School renamed as Fiji Maritime Academy Professor Ian Rouse (Dean CMNHS ) was appointed as Acting Vice Chancellor replacing Dr. Ganesh Chand.  

14 2014 Highlights Cont. 2. Learning Teaching Programmes, Research and Publications Total 370 Programmes offered at various Centers and Campuses. Accreditation of CBHTS Accounting Programs Bachelor ,Post Graduate and Masters by CPA Australia New Programmes rolled in 2014: CAFF – Introduced a 5 and half year Bachelor of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry programme CBHTS -Introduced EMBA ,Bachelor of Law, Graduate Diploma Legal Practice, Certificate IV and Trade Diploma in Accounting, Customs, Banking CMNHS -Formalization of Master of Medicine in surgery and also started offering Bachelor of Primary Health Nursing in Palau. Library Services: ISO Certification to FNU Library, first in the South Pacific Research and Publications Research Coaching Australia delivered tailored research coaching to researchers and research leaders. Fiji Business Excellence Awards organized by NTPC

Centre for Water and Energy Engineering was launched as joint venture between FNU and RMIT. New WiFi Bure was opened at Nasinu Campus Jumpin Java was opened in Nasinu. Fijian Government allocated $2M for Labasa Campus out of which $800,000 was utlised. Purchase of Navua Training Hotel, renamed as UniHotel. 4. Partnership and Collaborations. In 2014 FNU continued to strengthen its partnership and collaboration by signing 18 MoUs and MoAs.

1.Leadership and Management College Headcount : College EFTS: Staff; Total: 3,395 Academic: 1, Support : 2,300 Hon Dr. Mahendra Reddy took on Ministerial Position with the Government Mr. Ikbal Jannif was appointed as Chancellor. The following appointment of Deans and Directors were made: Mr. Manoj Ram - Director Finance. Prof. Ram Karan – Dean CBHTS Ms. Sarita Harish – Registrar Prof. Rajanishwar Gyaneshwar – Act. Dean CMNHS Formulation of Research & Consultation Policy Amendments to Whistleblower, Handover & Kava and Vehicle Use Policies , Review of UASR, Credit Transfer Policy, Finance Policy and HR Policy.

Learning Teaching Programmes, Research and Publications Total 390 Programmes offered at various centers and Campuses New Programs rolled out in 2015 CHE: New programme - Certificate IV in Broadcast Engineering CAFF Revised the Certificate III in Commercial Agriculture to 1 year Programme Senate Approved Programmes B.Ed. TVET , Graduate Certificate in Education and Post Graduate Studies in Social Policy, B.Ed.. Secondary - Home Economics. Revision of PG Dip in Sociology, Masters of Arts in Social Policy, PhD in Social Policy Programmes to be offered from 2016. Senate approval of Inter Disciplinary Doctorate of Philosophy Senate Approved transfer of Urban and Regional training programme from CBHTS to CEST Research and Publications increased to 374 in the year. FMA received ISO Certification.

There were a number of Capital Projects that were completed in Some highlights are: Navua Aqua-phonics Building 2 was completed at a total cost of $412,600 Water Analysis Lab construction at Nabua Campus - $187,601.23 Natabua Lecture Theatre was completed, costing $989,530.25 Ba Electronic & Software Lab Phase 1 constructed costing $105,000.00 Extension of B Block Lautoka Campus Approved Budget - $217,342.27 Launching of UniClinic, Welfare and Wellness Centre. Fijian Government allocated additional $4M for Labasa Campus Project ,$ 268, was utilised.

In 2015 FNU continued to strengthen its partnership and collaboration effort by signing 15 MoUs and MoAs. 5. Students and Alumni The first ever Alumni Gala Dinner and Awards First ever Alumni Association Election was held and executives were elected. Establishment of Disability Unit in FNU

1.Leadership and Management College Headcount Students: 25,958 College EFTS: 8, Staff : Total: 2,979 Academic:1, Support :1,920 Appointments: Mr. Ikbal Jannif managed the OVC office till the end of July, 2016 Mr. Salabogi Mavoa – Act. Dean CEST Mr. Peni Taoi – Actt. Director NTPC Dr. Willam May – Act. Dean CMNHS Professor Nigel Healey - Vice Chancellor Mr. Jonathan Cartmell – Consultant Director HR Policies Whistleblower Policy accepted by Council; UASR Revision consultation workshop Policies under review: Finance Policy, Human Resource Policy, UASR ,Corporate Governance Policy and ICT Policy. FNU Decree will be revised as an Act and provisions of the merger will be deleted. University granted ISO 9001:2008 certification after going through are recertification audit FHEC awards Full Registration Status to FNU renewable after 5 years.

21 2016 Highlights Cont. 2. Learning Teaching Programmes, Research and Publications Academic Portfolio Review of Programmes carried out. Restructure of Engineering Diploma and Degree Courses Assistance provided by partners APTC, Skills International & Wintec to develop new programmes. Development review of Foundation Science Programme. Introduction of Motor Vehicle Electrical and Electronics Trade Programme proposal by NTPC SMG consideration to return to Semester Mode, Colleges are in progress to convert Programmes to Semester mode. Research and Publications for the year was 190

Major Capital Projects Conversion of Storage Room to Veterinary Lab in Koronivia at a cost of $180,532.10 Nursing Library Extension Nursing Campus $252,250.00 Nasese Pastry Kitchen Nasese Campus Cost $276, Maritime Simulator Phase 2 at FMA ,Cost $112,500 Ba Campus & Uni. Studio damaged during Cyclone Winston Closure of Rakiraki NTPC Centre. Fijian Government allocated $13.3M as Capital Grant for Labasa Campus Project, CAFF Projects and FMA Project. 4. Partnership and Collaboration In 2016 FNU continued to strengthen its partnership and collaboration effort by signing 13 MoUs and MoAs.

Inaugural Alumni Homecoming Weekend Celebrations Miss FNU, Rejieli Vueti, was crowned as Miss Charity in Hibiscus Festival Department of Law (CBHTS) – Law Students won Moot Court Competition FNUSA Election held on 25th October 2016 Inauguration of FNUSA on 28th November 2016.
