‘Inspiration’ Teens Class 5 Shippensburg July 6, 2018

2 Class Titles Class 1 Boundaries of the Subject
Class 2 The Means of Inspiration Class 3 Inspiration Testimony Class 4 Areas of Concern Class 5 The Word is Alive Class 6 What It Means to Us 06/12/2018

3 The Word of God is Alive! This is an intriguing claim of the Bible.
This could only be possible through the concept of ‘inspiration’ that we have been studying. As the language of the Bible quite often has both a natural and spiritual sense we must not right off the claim as being ridiculous. “Comparing spiritual with spiritual” is the way to substantiate the statement. This class provides the proof.

4 The Word of God is ‘alive’
Hebrews 4:12 KJV 12  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 ESV 12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

5 “he spake and it was done”
Psalms 33:6-9 KJV 6  By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. 7  He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses. 8  Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. 9  For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.

6 “Peace, be still” Mark 4:39-41 KJV
39  And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40  And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? 41  And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

7 “Lazarus, come forth” John 11:43-44 KJV
43  And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. 44  And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave clothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

8 “which liveth and abideth forever”
1 Peter 1:23-25 KJV 23  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 24  For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: 25  But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. Again speaking of the fact that by being born again of the Word of God is to be put on the road to life everlasting. This is consistent with the prophet Isaiah 40 and the Psalmist 103. Flesh is like grass, only the Word of God abides forever.

9 “shall not return to me void”
Isaiah 55:8-11 8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: 11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” God’s thoughts are much deeper and his understanding much greater than ours. It is always important to be able to recall that fact. His word cannot fail, it will always accomplish his purpose.

10 “shall pursue … and overtake thee”
Deuteronomy 28:45 “Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee:” Hearkenedst: obey These are commandments that must be obeyed. Apart from obedience, the curses would pursue them like an enemy and overtake them and destroy them.

11 “Take hold” נָשַׂג nâśag Zechariah 1:5-6 KJV
5  Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever? 6  But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, Like as the LORD of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us. Take hold H5381 נָשַׂג nâśag naw-sag' A primitive root; to reach (literally or figuratively): - ability, be able, attain (unto), (be able to, can) get, lay at, put, reach, remove, wax rich, X surely, (over-) take (hold of, on, upon). Total KJV occurrences: 50

12 “which effectually worketh”
1 Thessalonians 2:13 13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe. Not the word of men, but as it is in truth, THE WORD of GOD. And because it is of God it effectually worked in them that believed. Effectually worked = to be mighty in.

13 “that ye might believe”
John 20:29-31 29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. 30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.” This shows the importance of the written record and the fact that Jesus understood that others would read about it and would never actually see it. So John wrote this Gospel record so that people might believe in Jesus. So inspiration spreads from those who God put a word in their mouth to those who wrote.

14 “they are life” John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. Due to them not being able to accept what he was saying, many of the believers left Jesus at this time. They were taking him literally, and he was speaking figuratively. The Words of Jesus had to be understood, if they were, it led to strength and endurance.

15 “as a burning fire” Jeremiah 20:9
“Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.” Jeremiah did not want to continue to speak the words of God. But the word in him was like a fire and too powerful for him to resist.

16 “cannot be broken” John 10:34-36 KJV
34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? 35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; 36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?” Broken STR G3089 luō A primary verb; to “loosen” (literally or figuratively): - break (up), destroy, dissolve, (un-) loose, melt, put off. Compare G4486. The Scriptures are not to be cancelled or to be altered by future generations.

17 “hath everlasting life”
John 5:24 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. These words are true. They convey the pathway of hearing and believing; as leading to eternal life. All people must attend the judgment, but those who have heard and hearkened need not fear of something else that must be done.

18 “shall not pass away” Matthew 24:35
35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” The Word of God is more enduring than the governing bodies of men. This is but a corollary of the premise, ‘all flesh is grass, but the Word of God abides forever.’ By not reflecting on it, we sometimes get this backwards.
