2 Summarizing is Briefly retelling the main ideas in a piece of writing in your own words. A summary is always shorter and simpler than the original passage

3 Important qualities of a good summary
Short, simple, covers main ideas, has coherence, makes sense, and is written in your own words. A good summary helps you learn or remember information. It is useful as a preview or a review. Focusing on important ideas keeps the summary short and simple.

4 Check list 1- have I included the title, author and topic? 2- Did I include all the main ideas? 3- Did I include any causes and consequences? 4- Did I use my own words to tell the author’s ideas? 5- Did I present the author’s ideas in the correct order? 6- Did I show time-order with transitions such as first, then, and finally? 7- did I use phrases such as “according to” to credit someone else’s ideas? 8- Dis I accurately show the original author’s opinions, if any? 9- is my summary shorter than the original article? 10- Is my summary simple, clear, and easy to read? 11- Can someone who has not read the article understand my summary?
