Dissolution (break up)- when Henry closed down the Monasteries. Learning Outcomes: Good: You need to be able to describe a reason the break was significant. Great: You need to be able to explain one reason and begin to explain others. Awesome: You need to be able to explain at least two reasons and make links between them.

Henry in love. Henry and Catherine were a popular and loving couple. In 1513 whilst Henry was in France Catherine ran the country for him she even beat a Scottish army at the Battle of Flodden. Henry and Catherine were happily married for 20 years. But it didn’t last as we know Henry had five more wives after Catherine. Read through the cartoon and complete the task opposite to find out why. Task The following are all important dates from Henry’s marriage to Catherine: Write each date, in chronological order on a separate line. Beside each date, write what happened in that year. Be careful- many things happen in one of the years ! 10 minutes

4 Homework For Homework this week half the class will be given a sheet of sources of Henry VIII and half on Henry VII. You will need to make a list of good and bad qualities from these sources either in your book or on paper to teach someone else about them next lesson. High flyers will also do their own research on top to have lots of knowledge to teach their partner. Due:

Henry Changes a nation Henry’s desire for a baby boy began a series of events which altered religion in England forever. In one move, he had his divorce and made himself more powerful. The Pope in Rome no longer had the English Church under his control- Henry did- and all its wealth too! To this day, the Head of the Church of England is the king or queen. Yet despite this change of Church leader and the closing of the monasteries, Henry only really made one other major religious change. From 1538, he ordered that every church must have an English copy of the Bible. At last, ordinary people could understand what their religion was teaching them.
