1 Finding information about the Library on the Web
This is a quick guide to our website and the information you will find on it.

2 You can easily find links via SUSSED in the Library tab
Our website can be easily accessed through the Library tab in SUSSED. This is often the best way to find it as SUSSED is the internet homepage on University workstations. For students based at Malaysia and other overseas campuses SUSSED may not be the preferred route as the internet home page on University workstations there may be different. Even so the home page will usually include a link to our website.

3 You could go to our website but …
You can also go directly to our main website – this just links to our key services and content. However …

4 All the key information is on LibGuides@Southampton
All the key information is on our site. The main website and Sussed simply link to parts of this site.

5 A guide for Getting Started (new students etc.)
Key areas of the site A guide for Getting Started (new students etc.) News and current events From the home page you can access library news – current events and service developments. There are also some quick links, a Getting Started guide (for new students, staff, etc.), and links to our catalogues. Finally the key areas of the site are linked from the tabs at the top. Make yourself familiar with this - there is a wealth of information stored on it. You may want to bookmark it for future use or add it to a dashboard application, and will find it a useful starting point for many of your information needs.

6 There is a guide for each discipline …
The subjects section is one of the most important areas of the service. There is a guide for each discipline - and also for specific resource types such as technical information (patents, standards, etc.) and newspapers. Look for your discipline (e.g. Electronics and Computer Science) or faculty (e.g. Engineering & the Environment) in the A-Z list.

7 Contact details of your Librarian(s)
Subject guides contain useful information targeted at your area of study (this one is for Electronics and Computer Science). They have details of the key databases that are most relevant to you, help on finding books and journals and guidance on referencing. They also have and contact details of the Liaison Librarian(s) responsible for the subject. Other information on a subject guide will vary depending on the discipline. Some include useful websites, links to reference works and encyclopaedias (under Books) and supporting materials for library training sessions (under Key Skills). Contact details of your Librarian(s)

8 The InfoSkills section has tutorials and guides on using the library, searching databases and guidance on organising your references. This is the InfoSkills section – here you will find tutorials on using databases and the library. There are also guides on referencing, and material to support software to manage your references like Endnote. This is especially useful when doing a project or dissertation.

9 The Resources section has an A-Z list of eResources, guidance/support on using and accessing online resources.. This is the Resources section. As well as buying books the Library pays subscriptions to give you access to high quality academic resources such as journal articles. This section contains an A-Z List of databases and high quality websites and also gives you guidance on how to access these materials.

10 The Collections section has details of some of the more specialised collections
In the Collections section you will find details of some of our more specialised collections. This includes the Archives and Technical Information (Patents, Standards, etc.).

11 The Library Services & Sites section includes information about Loans, the Course Collection, Inter-Library Loans etc. and about the individual libraries On this section you will find details of our services such as Loans, the Course Collection and Inter-Library Loans.
