3 Census Data Dissemination
Resolution on the 2010 World Population & Housing Census Programme calls upon countries to conduct population and housing censuses and to disseminate census results in a timely manner “A census is not complete until the information collected is made available to potential users in a form suited to their needs. A wide range of statistical products can be made available to the public, the private sector, government agencies, local authorities and the academic and research communities” – UN Principles and Recommendations for Population and Housing Censuses, Rev. 2. This calls for managed creativity and responsiveness as potential users and their needs are heterogeneous Learning Centre on Population and Housing Census Data Dissemination, including CensusInfo United Nations, New York, 21 February, 2011

4 Dissemination Challenges
Making the data visible Creating awareness and interest in the data Identifying data users and their needs Presenting the right data with the right context to meet users needs – To be user-oriented Taking advantage of advances in ICT to make the data more accessible and better presented Taking advantage of the spatial dimension of census data Ensuring data confidentiality Managing pressure of timely/fast dissemination, while ensuring the quality of statistics Learning Centre on Population and Housing Census Data Dissemination, including CensusInfo United Nations, New York, 21 February, 2011

5 UNSD Activities to Assist Countries
Inadequate data dissemination and analysis was generally a weakness of previous census rounds UNSD activities to enhance exchange of national experience and strengthen capacity to disseiminate census results Regional seminars on dissemination and analysis of data African countries (Kenya – August 2010) Asian countries (Thailand – October 2010) More planned for 2011 Project on strengthening national capacity to analyse, present and disseminate data for evidence-based policy making National Seminars on Census Data Analysis (Egypt, Malawi, Ethiopia,….)
