2.5 GPA minimum Second semester Sophomore Advisor approval for grad students Interview with Dr. Hines Find one by searching the internet, speaking with your advisor, speaking with Dr. Hines, speaking with Career Services Seek an interview via phone or , then prepare a resume and a letter of intent If the site is not approved, speak with Dr. Hines, who will try to get it approved through the College of Arts and Sciences or the Graduate School If hired, see Dr. Hines and construct a Permission to Enroll form Fulfill the on-site supervisor’s and the EOS department’s requirements to receive credits toward your degree. Don Zeigler is GTU President through 2010, Tom Wikle is GTU Second Vice-President through 2010, and James Lowry is GTU Executive Secretary. The GTU colors are gold, brown, and light blue. 19

UNCW’s Theta Delta Chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon
Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU) is an international honor society in geography. Gamma Theta Upsilon was founded in 1928 and became a national organization in Members of GTU have met academic requirements and share a background and interest in geography. GTU chapter activities support geography knowledge and awareness. GTU’s Goals are: To further professional interest in Geography by affording a common organization for those interested in the field. To strengthen student and professional training through academic experiences in addition to those of the classroom and laboratory. To advance the status of Geography as a cultural and practical discipline for study and investigation. To encourage student research of high quality, and to promote an outlet for publication. To create and administer funds for furthering graduate study and/or research in the field of Geography. To encourage members to apply geographic knowledge and skills in service to humankind.

Membership is open to undergraduates and post-graduates.
Inductees must have: 3 geography courses 3 college semesters 3.3 GPA overall 3.3 GPA in geography GTU is an honor society, and it must meet the criteria established by the Association of College Honor Societies. GPA stands for Grade Point Average. Members are typically inducted as undergraduates and post-graduates, but faculty members may also be inducted. GTU chapter sponsors who are not already members are typically inducted at the university where they are teaching. Membership is open to undergraduates and post-graduates. 22

The Geographical Bulletin
Peer reviewed 2 issues per year Published since 1970 Student research Best Student Article EBSCO accessible The Geographical Bulletin provides opportunities for all GTU members to publish the results of their research. It is open to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty members. 24

Visiting Geographical Scientist Program
Funds are available to support speakers at campuses which have an active GTU chapter. These GTU funds are administered by the Association of American Geographers. 26
